Over the past two weeks, our crew has been traveling through Central America in search of some of the most delicious coffee we can find—and we’re beyond stoked about what’s coming next!
We kicked things off in El Salvador, the land of pupusas and epic right-hand point breaks. We headed into the mountains to reconnect with our longtime friend Mauricio, who we’ve partnered with for the past 10 years. Mauricio has had coffees place in the Cup of Excellence and consistently produces exceptional lots for us. Right now, we’re offering a limited micro lot from him, and his coffees are also featured in our Gaviota and Dawn Patrol blends.
While in El Salvador, we teamed up with local pro surfer and national hero Brian Perez. Together, we scored some waves and helped spread the word about El Salvador’s amazing coffee.
Next, we made our way to Costa Rica to visit our friend Diego on his family’s farm near the Poás Volcano. Diego’s family has been in coffee for over a century, mastering both cultivation and milling to deliver consistent quality year after year. His grandfather helped pioneer some of Costa Rica’s iconic surf breaks and passed that passion down to Diego, who’s now teaching his daughter to surf. We had the honor of gifting Diego a signed surfboard from Olympic champion Caroline Marks, a Sur Coffee regular in San Clemente, to inspire his daughter on her surfing journey.
Coffee has become so much more than a morning ritual—it’s about connection. Like surfing, it brings people together from all walks of life. From farmers and producers to roasters and baristas, it takes a crew working in sync to create something truly special.
Along the way, I’ve met some incredible people—longtime partners at origin and everyday legends in our shops. It’s wild how a simple cup can spark friendships, build community, and create real impact.
Here’s to new friends, family, and the amazing community that comes together to do good, from farm to cup.
